Collins’ actions were wrong, not unwise

John Key’s moral compass remains off-kilter as he cannot bring himself to declare Judith Collins’ actions outright wrong, not simply ‘unwise’, said Labour MP Grant Robertson.

“Under pressure John Key is finally shifting his stance but his failure to condemn Judith Collins’ actions in leaking the contact details of an innocent public servant is out of touch with how New Zealanders are feeling.

“Everyone, including Bill English, knows this action by Judith Collins is an abuse of her power and knowledge as a Minister and that she should go, except, it seems, the Prime Minister. He has lost touch with New Zealanders’ sense of right and wrong.

“Judith Collins was meant to be on her last warning after the Oravida affair, but it appears with John Key there can be several last warnings. I know the Prime Minister is fond of rugby analogies – well in rugby two yellow cards lead to a red card, and Judith Collins has now had at least three.

“John Key is clearly concerned that his election campaign is going off the rails. He has to stop thinking about the political ramifications and do what’s right. That means sacking Judith Collins right now,” Grant Robertson said.
