Budget 2008: Pacific
Budget 2008 continues the Labour government's drive to enhance and support the social wellbeing, economic prosperity, and diverse cultures of Pacific people in New Zealand.

Budget 2008 invests in our Pacific people, with:
- An additional $10.4 million over the next four years to support workforce development for strong community health providers. Pacific Health Providers understand our Pacific communities and their needs.
This funding will also be used to establish health programmes specifically focussed on Pacific youth. We know that wellbeing is essential to Pacific young people reaching their full potential.
- $1.3 million in 2007/08 and a further $1.3 million of operating funding over the next four years in the capability of the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs. This will support the Ministry to become a knowledge based agency that is able to provide leadership and improved outcomes for all Pacific people.
- $200,000 over the next 2 years for a targeted campaign to enable the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs to promote and encourage the uptake of Modern Apprenticeships in Pacific communities, creating the skills needed to transform New Zealand's economy.
The Labour government is investing in the enormous potential of our Pacific communities, ensuring they are equipped to fully contribute to, and share in, the future success of New Zealand.
