A business lifeline for Pacific Communities is being ripped apart and sold off without proper consultation, says Labour’s Pacific Affairs spokesperson Su’a William Sio.
“The Pacific Business Trust is government appointed and was recently placed into liquidation.
“It is now selling off its assets, including land, buildings and artwork.
“The Pacific community fought hard to keep the Otahuhu land available for the public, which benefits everyone, including future generations looking to start their own business.
“The Trust is an iconic brand that’s about growing Pacific businesses. The Minister needs to front up and explain what’s going on.
“How will these funds be used? And will the new structure be accountable to the public who funded these assets in the first place?
“The Minister has a responsibility to provide answers to the Pacific community who were entrusted to look after this public asset.
“He also needs to assure us that the staff affected will be helped to find other jobs and not just dumped to fend for themselves without transition support,” says Su’a William Sio.
