Waiheke Fuller ferry to be included in SuperGold card free off peak travel

26.09.2008

MP for Auckland Central Judith Tizard announced today that the Waiheke Fuller Ferry service would be part of the SuperGold card free off peak travel.

MP for Auckland Central Judith Tizard announced today that the Waiheke Fuller Ferry service would be part of the SuperGold card free off peak travel.

SuperGold Card holders who show their cards will be able to travel for free on public transport after 9am on weekdays, and any time on weekends and public holidays.

"This is hugely significant for Waiheke Island," said Judith Tizard.

"This comes at a time when increasing food, energy and transport prices are squeezing the budgets of Waiheke residents and is just the first step in helping older people cope with these costs.

All New Zealand residents aged 65 and over and those under 65 receiving New Zealand Superannuation or a Veteran's Pension are eligible for a SuperGold Card, which from 1 October will provide free off peak travel on the Waiheke Fuller ferry.

The card also provides access to government entitlements and local authority services and concessions.

Government is providing funding, nationwide, of $72 million over four years ($18 million a year) for the SuperGold Card free off-peak travel scheme for card holders.

"More than 500,000 SuperGold Card holders around New Zealand will be eligible for free off-peak public transport travel from next week," said Judith Tizard.

For more information on the SuperGold Card call 0800 25 45 65 or visit www.supergold.govt.nz.
