Labour MP for Mana Kris Faafoi has welcomed the move to place the services from the Mana Post shop to a local small business.
“This is the best outcome for the community we could ask for. All the vital services the community said it wanted to be protected have been. So for the most part the community is not being put out to access the services it has for decades,” Kris Faafoi said.
“I acknowledge that New Zealand Post business model is fast changing, but that doesn’t change the fact that our community wanted to keep basic services in their neighbourhood.
“I applaud the efforts of the community to fight for these services.
“I want to acknowledge the staff at the Mana Post Shop. They’ve done a great job of looking after their regulars for years and I’m told they still have the potential to be redeployed.
“I also want to acknowledge Small Business Accounting for taking on this service in Mana. While it is a commercial arrangement it remains a service for the community. That is a public good.
“This as close to business as usual as we could have hoped for and I’d like to thank the residents of North Porirua for responding to our survey and public meetings to ensure the community had its say” said Kris Faafoi.
