No New Progress on Waikato Expressway from National

Recent announcements on the Te Rapa by-pass and the Cambridge by-pass are simply reiterating timeframes set in place by the Labour Government, says Hamilton-based Labour MP, Sue Moroney.

"The Minister of Transport Steven Joyce needs to stop the PR campaign on roading and actually get on with the job," Sue Moroney said.

"Today I released documentation showing that in 2007, Transit NZ planned for construction to start on the Te Rapa By-Pass in the 2010/11 financial year and the Cambridge By-Pass having its design work completed in 2010/11 financial year with construction starting on its completion.

"The Minister of Transport Steven Joyce is simply regurgitating old news to create the impression that he is making new progress on the Waikato Expressway," said Sue Moroney.

"All he is doing is keeping to a timeframe established by Labour, but his Government promised to build the Waikato Expressway ahead of Labour's schedule. So why haven’t they started delivering on that promise?

"Just last month the NZ Transport Agency said that the Hamilton By-Pass would not be completed until 2024, breaking the Government's election promise to the region. To date, the NZTA has given no revised completion date for completion of the Hamilton By-Pass," Sue Moroney said.
