Labour has today paid tribute to Ralph Hotere who will forever be remembered as one of New Zealand’s greatest artists.
“We send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ralph Hotere as they mourn his passing. He is a huge loss, not only to those who knew him but also to the many people around the world who appreciate his fine works of art,” said Labour Leader David Shearer.
“Ralph Hotere was one of this country’s most important contemporary artists. His works were provocative and thoughtful. He boldly tackled controversial political issues and challenged our way of thinking.
“Ralph Hotere was recognised for his life-long service to New Zealand when he was appointed to the Order of New Zealand last year.
“We thank him for his contribution and mourn his loss. Ralph Hotere leaves behind a legacy of art work that will ensure he is never forgotten,” said David Shearer.
