Protest about state of democracy in Burma

Tomorrow, Thursday 3 June, a group of Burmese refugees now resident in Nelson, Wellington and Auckland, will stage a protest about the parlous state of freedom and democracy in Burma, on the steps of Parliament.

Some of them were in the House today to hear the Parliament pass unanimously a motion to call upon the military rulers of Burma to reinstate the democratic rights of Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of the former National League for Democracy in Burma.

They would not have been allowed into the public gallery of the House in any numbers tomorrow after attending a demonstration outside.

They will use theatre to convey their message tomorrow.
