Lynne Pillay's biography
Waitakere
MP for Waitakere
Lynne Pillay has been the Member of Parliament for the Waitakere electorate for the last six years. She is the Chair of the Justice and Electoral Select Committee and is a member of the Social Services Select Committee.
Lynne has an electorate office based in Glen Eden and there is also a clinic held on Thursdays at the Ranui Community House.
Her areas of special interest are women’s and family issues, workers’ rights and environment issues. She was privileged to sponsor the Waitakere Ranges Heritage Area Act through Parliament to ensure that this unique area of New Zealand is protected for generations to come.
Lynne has worked extensively in and with community based organisations and has considerable knowledge of their structures, activities and issues specific to them.
Prior to entering Parliament in 2002, Lynne was a nurse, and Union organiser with responsibility for the Waitakere area. She took part in campaigns for pay equity, paid parental leave, workplace health and safety, increased holidays and workplace fairness.
Lynne lives in Titirangi with her partner Mike. She has two adult children.
