I am surprised that with costs being what they are, numbers are down compared to last year for the amount of households who have applied to get a rates rebate - you can get up to $500 off your rates bill if you qualify!

Time is running out though - 30 June is the last possible date to send in your application so I strongly encourage those on NZ Super, low incomes or a benefit to take a few minutes and fill in the form.

It's easy - just pop into the council offices, call them for an application form, or download one at www.ratesrebates.govt.nz.

Last ratings year 3621 Westie households had been granted rebates of up to $500 - this year 3338 households have applied and qualified so far. That's just over $1.5 million back into the pockets of our people but there is still more available to give. Even if you're not sure if you qualify or not, fill in the forms anyway - you may not qualify for the full $500 but it's possible you could qualify for something. It can't hurt to apply and it could be of huge benefit for you!
