Fraser High School gets over $730,000 for new buildings

25.10.2007

Hamilton's Fraser High School is to receive over $730,000 in government funding to replace old school buildings.

Hamilton's Fraser High School is to receive over $730,000 in government funding to replace old school buildings.

Hamilton West MP Martin Gallagher says Fraser High will use the funding to replace the technology buildings.

"This will be a huge benefit for students, teachers and the wider school community," said Martin Gallagher.

"The final budget and project details are subject to checking with the school, but this funding of $731,000 will enable the school to knock down older buildings and modernise with new facilities to create a better environment for 21st century learning.

“The brand new facilities will be a valuable resource to improve learning and help the school prepare students to meet the needs and challenges of a modern knowledge society.

The school is one of thirteen across the country that it was announced today would between them receive total funding of over $19 million, ranging from $133,000 to $6.6 million per school.

Martin Gallagher said the funding was in addition to the five-yearly property programme schools already receive, and will help to create a comfortable, safe and modern school to enhance teaching and learning.

Mr Gallagher said it was his pleasure to open the Schools Technology Block on behalf of himself and Tainui MP Nanaia Mahuta last Friday 19 October 2007.

This funding will represent another important step in the upgrade and development of the Hamilton Fraser High Campus.

The Labour-led government is providing $472 million to improve school properties this year across the country, part of the overall investment in our schools of $5.8 billion this year, up from $3.9 billion in 1999.
