Tin-O-Saurus wins monster comp for Greenacres

Recycling steel cans and using them creatively has paid off for students at Greenacres School in Tawa who have won the Wellington Region "Hanable the CANable" Monster Making Competition, Environment Minister Trevor Mallard announced today.
"The competition, was to design a monster from used steel cans with only minimal use of other materials such as glue, rope or nails to hold the monster together. Local early childhood service receives $1.5m grant

Pukeatua Te Kohanga Reo in Wainuiomata is to receive a grant of about $1.5 million from the Labour-led government to set up a new 70-place licensed early childhood education centre for local children, Hutt South MP Trevor Mallard said today.
"This is fantastic news for Wainuiomata children and their families - as research shows that early childhood education makes a big difference to how kids do later in life," Trevor Mallard said.

Local students receive books to help with reading

Pukeatua School children will each be taking home a new book to read tonight thanks to Government Book Week, Hutt South MP Trevor Mallard said today.
Trevor Mallard today visited Pukeatua School in Wainuiomata where each child received a new book to help them with their reading, motivation and achievement through Government Book Week and the Books in Homes programme.
