A 4,000 strong petition opposing the construction of a Special Housing Area on some of the last rural land near Auckland Airport has been tabled in Parliament, by Mangere MP Su’a William Sio.
“Accepting the petition from SOUL (Save Our Urban Landscapes) it’s clear that there should be no rezoning or building on the 32 hectares of land.
“I know this site and it includes some of the stonefields that pre date European settlement and two lava caves. This is a site that should be included in the Otuataua Stonefields reserve and not used for housing.
“The petitioners are not opposed to housing developments, they just believe there are better sites for this sort of project.
“This is one of the last blocks of rural land left in this part of South Auckland. It’s unique and it must be saved,” says Su’a William Sio.
