Report provides valuable input to TSO reform

Communications and Information Technology Minister David Cunliffe has welcomed a final report from the Telecommunications Carriers Forum (TCF) on reforming the Telecommunications Service Obligation (TSO).

3G mobile investment drives further broadband surge

Communications and Information Technology Minister David Cunliffe says New Zealand's regulatory regime has given telecommunications companies the flexibility they require to bring broadband to rural areas.

Today Vodafone announced it is extending its mobile broadband offer outside the main centres.

"This announcement means that more New Zealanders will have access to high-speed internet, via their home computers, laptops and on their mobile phones," Mr Cunliffe said.

Broadband Spectrum

Communications and Information Technology Minister David Cunliffe today announced the release of a discussion paper on the operation of the Managed Spectrum Park (MSP) in the 2.5 GHz radio spectrum band.

"The MSP is a new concept in New Zealand," Mr Cunliffe said. "It is intended for local and regional broadband services, such as Wi-MAX, and seeks to encourage a flexible, cooperative, low cost and self-managed approach to allocation and use of radio spectrum."
