New Zealand pledges support for Timor-Leste's future

New Zealand will investigate future assistance for Timor-Leste in areas including community policing, education administration and customs service support, Prime Minister Helen Clark announced today.

Helen Clark is today holding formal talks in Wellington with Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao and his ministers of foreign affairs, finance, justice, and education.

Niue's Premier to make first visit to NZ

Prime Minister Helen Clark announced today that the new Premier of Niue Hon Toke Talagi, will make his first official visit to New Zealand from Monday 28 July to Friday 1 August.

"New Zealand's relationship with Niue is an important one. We are bound together by bonds of family and citizenship. More than 25,000 people of Niuean descent have made New Zealand their home and our links with the community on Niue are important to New Zealand," Helen Clark said.

Ancestry visa access to UK safe for Kiwis

Prime Minister Helen Clark is welcoming today's announcement from the British Government that New Zealanders who have grandparents born in the United Kingdom will continue to be able to live and work in the UK for up to five years using ancestry visas.

"I am delighted that the British Home Office has said that it intends to retain the ancestry visa category. This follows the recent news that New Zealanders will continue to have visa free access to the United Kingdom for up to six months.
