"I was happy to tell the hairdressers that nothing changes as of the bills enactment and I promised that I will write to them to confirm that."

"I told them these rules have been in place for many years under the old Health Act.  They are simply copied and transferred into the new legislation as they currently are," said Mr Cunliffe.

"In 2012, the Bill will require hairdressers themselves to be consulted on whether the rules need to be updated, and I made it clear that even then I think the legislation is weighted again intervention. "

"The hairdressers have told me they saw it now as a creative opportunity to review their industry. They have other concerns outside the bill such as unregulated activities like tattooing and body piercing and they told me they would like to see that review process expedited," said Mr Cunliffe.

"I have also made it clear that there will not necessarily be any risk management plans for the hairdressing industry. In the bill it is simply not compulsory .This was a misunderstanding created by the National Party in their minority select committee report on the legislation."
