Budget boost for 150 Statistics field workers

Statistics Minister Darren Hughes today announced Budget funding of $4.5m over four years to enhance the statistical capability of Statistics New Zealand, and, in particular, the field collection workforce.

Toll NZ’s World Environment Day Transport Initiative Welcomed

Minister of Statistics Darren Hughes on behalf of the Environment Minister Trevor Mallard has today congratulated Toll NZ Ltd for the positive initiatives it has adopted for World Environment Day to encourage more people to use public transport.

As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, Toll NZ Ltd will be branding 10 per cent of their electric fleet with an environmental image and message, and will also have discounted off-peak fares on 5 June - World Environment Day.

Statisticians making it count for the Pacific

Pacific Island Affairs Minister Luamanuvao Winnie Laban and Statistics Minister Darren Hughes yesterday welcomed visiting statisticians from the Pacific, saying this is an excellent opportunity to share expertise and knowledge.

The visit is part of Statistics New Zealand's Strategy for Building Statistical Capability in Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs), with visiting Heads of Statistical Offices and Planners from Tokelau, Niue and the Cook Islands attending workshops throughout the week.
