Maori Trade Manual key to NZ Tourism Success
02.04.2008
Speech Notes for the Launch of the Maori Tourism Trade Manual, on Wednesday 2 April 2008 at 4pm, Parliament Buildings, WELLINGTON
I’m pleased to be recognising the launch of the Maori Tourism Trade Manual
I’d like to acknowledge Minister of Maori Affairs, Parekura Horomia and Te Puni Kokiri for their solid commitment toward Maaori tourism from its operators, the Maori Tourism Council
The manual sets in contxt the extent to which Maaori are involved in the Tourism industry
A high quality, high value cultural experience and tourism products must continue to underpin where Maaori fit in the tourism industry to consolidate a unique point of difference
In part this will give depth to the values of Kaitiakitanga and Manakitanga found in the tourism strategy and this trade manual.
Whanaungatanga is another value reflected so well in this manual. As Maaori we all share a common story of how we came to be and settle in Aotearoa/New Zealand. This story unfolds so well in the trade manual
