Tizard celebrates victory for school bus services on Waiheke

Auckland Central MP Judith Tizard said today she is delighted by a decision from Education Minister Hon Chris Carter that three school bus routes on Waiheke that the Ministry of Education was proposing to axe will be retained for at least two further years.

$26 million assistance increase for local authorities

Territorial and regional authorities will receive an additional $26 million in funding assistance from the Government to support a range of land transport activities and projects, Transport Minister Annette King has announced.
The funding - announced as part of the 2008/09 National Land Transport Programme - will see approximately $10 million go towards a new initiative, the Targeted Community Fund, to provide assistance to address unmet transport needs in communities with a high level of socio-economic deprivation. more +
Government sets specific transport targets

Transport Minister Annette King has launched a set of defined targets for the transport sector and actions to achieve these targets over the next 30 years.
This is the first time specific targets have been set for the whole sector and they are detailed in two key documents released today: the New Zealand Transport Strategy 2008 (NZTS) and the first Government Policy Statement on Land Transport Funding (GPS).
