Dear Editor

Waitakere City will further cement its ‘Eco-City’ status with the fantastic announcement that three of our environmental projects are set to receive Government funding.

I am particularly delighted that one of these is the EcoMatters Environment Trust which is due to get over $300,000 over three years.

EcoMatters is an outstanding community resource which is proactive in promoting and educating the community on our Eco-City values.

The organisations outstanding ‘Eco-Day’ attracted thousands of attendees interested in learning new ways to live sustainably in our communities.

I know the funding will be put to good use providing practical skills to reduce energy use, minimise waste, conserve water and promote public transport. I congratulate EcoMatters for all their efforts.

Congratulations must also go to the Eco-Design Advisor project to continue their pilot programme of free sustainability advice to builders, designers and other community members.

Well done to too the Urban Ecoliving Charitable Trust for their ‘Tread Lightly’ initiative that will build on the Enviroschools system with a mobile and interactive education unit.

These projects enhance and give validity to Waitakere as an Eco City.

Yours sincerely
