Today is the United Nations International Day of Youth and the theme is Youth Civic Engagement.

So today Parliament is calling for nominations for the 2016 Youth Parliament.
This is a great opportunity if you are aged 16-18 on October 2015 to be either a Youth MP, or a journalist in the Youth Parliamentary Press Gallery.

You will get first hand experience of the day to day operations of Parliament with Youth MPs debating legislation, sitting on select committees and asking oral parliamentary questions of Ministers, while Youth Parliamentary Press Gallery report on Youth MPs activities during their tenure and making sure that Youth MPs are accountable to the public.

It really is a fun and informative way to learn how parliament works.

If you would like to apply you should get in touch with your local MP, who’s contact details you can find by visiting http://www.parliament.nz/en-nz/mpp/mps/current

Alternatively, you can get information about the selection process for both Youth MPs and the Youth Press Gallery by emailing beheard@youthparliament.govt.nz

More information about Youth Parliament is also available at www.youthparliament.govt.nz

The selection period closes on 16 October 2015.
