Meet Camilla Belich
I want to build a fairer, kinder, more equal New Zealand for our children and grandchildren.
Before entering Parliament in 2020, Camilla worked as an employment lawyer. She has been advocating for change since she was a teenager.
During high school, Camilla campaigned for a youth health centre in Wellington, securing funding to establish Evolve, a dedicated youth health service still operating today.
While at Law School, Camilla was elected Co-President of the New Zealand University Students Association. In 2004, she led a successful campaign for a fairer student loan scheme, culminating with Labour’s 0% student loans election policy.
Throughout her legal career, Camilla was a strong advocate for working people. While in the UK, she was the solicitor on a high-profile case at the Court of Justice of the European Union that addressed holiday pay rates for people across the EU who are paid on commission. In New Zealand, she was a volunteer solicitor at Community Law for many years.
She now brings these experiences to her role as a List MP and Spokesperson for ACC and Public Services and Spokesperson for Emergency Management.
Camilla is a strong advocate for women and the families they support. She has worked extensively on pay equity policy and on legal claims seeking equal pay for work.
In 2024, Camilla had the privilege of having her Member’s Bill, the Employment Relations (Employment Renumeration Disclosure) Amendment Bill drawn from the Members’ Bill Ballot. The bill aims to protect employees against disciplinary action if they discuss their pay.
Other Member’s Bills in Camilla’s name that have passed into law successfully, include the Crimes (Theft by Employer) Amendment Bill and The Companies (Directors' Duties) Amendment Bill, which states that directors may consider a wide range of factors, when making decisions, other than financial gain.
Camilla is the Chair is the Government and Local Government Select Committee. Camilla was formerly Chair of Parliament’s Education and Workforce Select Committee and was both Government and Opposition Junior Whip from 2023 to 2025.
She and her husband live in Auckland with their three children.
