Paula Bennett has wasted three-quarters of a million dollars on her Rules Reduction Taskforce which proposed loopy rules like allowing builders to self-certify their work, Labour’s Housing spokesperson Phil Twyford says.
“This was $727,241 spent on a self-serving exercise in political spin. And there’s more costs to come from the publication of the Taskforce’s final report.
“The Minister for Local Government revealed today she set up the Taskforce to hear from people who were ‘experienced in things’.
“What the Taskforce did was debunk the very ‘rules’ she previously cited as justification for setting it up in the first place – such as lolly scramble bans and the requirement to wear a harness when using a step-ladder.
“Three-quarters of a million dollars later, her hand-picked cronies have been paid $500 a day.
“Instead of cutting loopy rules, Paula Bennett has gone full circle and created new loopy rules,” Phil Twyford says.
