This was my first campaign launch and it was fantastic – there was an incredible atmosphere and so many people. I met people from all over the country who had come to Auckland for the event including a lot of my Labour friends from Wellington.
I’m from Wellington but in my third year at the University of Auckland studying politics and history. I became interested in Labour at the beginning of year two – through my New Zealand politics class.
I’m Labour because the Party’s values - of equality and giving everyone the best chance in life – are my values. I joined Princes Street Young Labour and got involved. The first thing I worked on was phone calling for Meka Whaitiri’s election campaign.
Since then I’ve done a lot of calling, leaflet deliveries and doorknocking. Recently I was asked to co-manage Barry Kirker’s campaign in Pakuranga. It’s been a steep learning curve but a great experience.
