Willow-Jean primed for action


Baby Hihana was only six days old when National MP Mike Sabin’s resignation triggered a by-election announcement for Northland.

A life-changing experience - Paul Eagle


Wellington Labour Councillor Paul Eagle’s introduction to local government was at an early age – when his father ran for Labour on the Mt Eden Borough Council.

“I was about five,” said Paul, who will be talking about his own campaign experiences in the Rongotai Electorate and Southern Ward campaigns at the New Zealand Labour Local Government Hui in Wellington on Friday 30 January.

Rātana Celebrations


It was a good omen as the sun rose over Rātana while Labour MPs, councillors and supporters assembled for the annual visit to the settlement last Friday. For Andrew Little, it was the first attendance as party leader and he spoke about the long relationship between the Labour Party and the Rātana movement, forged in the years before the first Labour Government by the Prophet Tahupōtiki Wiremu Rātana.

Andrew Little - taking it all in his stride


Andrew Little rocketed out of the traps in his first fortnight in office, including landing repeated blows on the Prime Minister over his office’s dealings with attack blogger Cameron Slater and calling for the State Services Commissioner to step down. 

That was alongside allocating shadow portfolios, giving a host of interviews and spearheading plans for a Future of Work Commission to work with New Zealanders to develop long-term policies for creating new jobs.
