Bulk funding means bigger classes

National’s plan to bulk fund schools can only result in bigger class sizes and a reduced range of subject choices, Labour’s Education spokesperson Chris Hipkins says.

“The level of anxiety about National’s bulk funding plan isn’t surprising given the huge ramifications of such a change.

“It’s great to see the whole education sector coming together, unified in opposition, and taking strong action.

“National should listen and back down immediately.

“Let’s not forget this is Hekia Parata’s second attempt to drive through a policy of larger class sizes. She was forced into an embarrassing back-down in 2012 after parents voiced their outrage.

“A return to bulk funding simply means larger class sizes and that’s not what parents or teachers want for our kids and schools,” Chris Hipkins says.
