Meet Emily
Emily Henderson grew up in Whangārei and now lives in Maungatapere with her husband and children. Before becoming MP for Whangarei, she was a Family Court lawyer in the firm her dad founded in the 1980s and also worked as a prosecutor. These strong local connections and her experience working with local whanau in crisis are the basis of her motivation to improve the lives of people in our community. Emily, who also has a PhD from Cambridge University, also has a strong background as a criminal court academic and reformer, helping to negotiate major criminal justice reforms both in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally.
Her motivation to stand for Parliament was to address the grassroots problems she saw in her years in the Family and criminal courts. This is a great place to live, but for far too long we’ve been missing out on the investment in our people and our economy that we need.
