George HamptonCandidate for North Shore
Meet George Hampton
I’ve worked for our country and our planet, and I’ll work hard to get things done for the Shore and be a strong advocate for all New Zealanders.
George believes we all deserve to live in a world where everyone gets a fair go, no one suffers in poverty and we all have the opportunity to thrive. He has fought for these values as a senior United Nations leader on renewable energy and climate change, a New Zealand diplomat, an advisor to the Prime Minister, a local elected member, and a student union president.
George is a Gleitsman Leadership Fellow at Harvard University and was a Fulbright Scholar to Columbia University. George has been involved in small businesses and was selected as a Future Leader by the New Zealand Leadership Institute at Auckland University Business School. He is co-owner of Mr Whippy New Zealand.
George has long-standing family connections to the North Shore and believes it is a special and vibrant part of Aotearoa New Zealand. The North Shore deserves a committed, passionate and capable representative who can embrace the unique opportunities and challenges at the heart of our largest city. George is proud to make the Shore his home, just as he will be proud to give his all to what matters here.
George is one of seven children from a Labour family. His parents were both in the first generation of their families to go to university and have worked for change throughout their lives. He is married and has a baby daughter. George has played rugby, cricket, netball and hockey as an often enthusiastic and unintentionally dangerous member of several teams.
