Govt to blame for low burglary resolution, not parents

Judith Collins’ latest cop-out is to blame parents for the appallingly low burglary resolution rates when the reality is police are way too stretched to solve them, says Labour’s Police Spokesman Stuart Nash.

“Ms Collins has got it wrong again, saying in Parliament today the parents of burglars are the reason less than one in 10 robberies are resolved.

“That’s yet another diversion. Parents must take responsibility for their kids going off the rails. But, like them, the Police Minister must take responsibility for low police resolution rates. It’s the funding that’s the problem.

“The Police Minister’s job is to provide funding. The Police’s job is to solve the crimes. That doesn’t have anything to do with parents. Judith Collins is shirking responsibility,” says Stuart Nash.
