Joyce drags feet while Capital businesses suffer

Wellington businesses affected by the earthquake are continuing to struggle while the Government drags its feet on getting a business assistance package up and running, says Grant Robertson, Wellington Central MP.

“Steven Joyce needs to front up with an assistance package now. With more Wellington buildings out of action, and cordons still in place in Molesworth St and around Courtenay Central, it is now urgent that government steps up to support Wellington businesses as they have done elsewhere.

“This is especially crucial for small businesses who either can't get to their premises or for whom their regular customers are not around. Some are now having to look at laying off staff. Even those with business protection insurance face unsustainable excess payments.

“It’s now 10 days since the earthquake and local business owners are feeling stressed and uncertain. Business-owners need to hear from Mr Joyce right now,” Grant Robertson said.
