Minister must protect MSD staff

The Minister of Social Development should immediately implement safer work practices to ensure tragedies such as the Ashburton killings don’t happen again, says Labour’s Social Development spokesperson Carmel Sepuloni.

“The Ministry has admitted it left Work and Income staff without adequate protection due to the office layout.

“Anne Tolley should take better care of her people and make safety paramount. She should create a space of positivity and support those clients who require help.

“It is positive MSD is now working with the Public Service Association to establish guidelines for the safer layout of WINZ offices.

“Labour urges the Government to ensure recommendations from the PSA are made.

“We know that security at Work and Income offices need to improve and we are committed to working toward a real change,” says Carmel Sepuloni.
