Make Halswell Junction Safer

Improve safety at the Halswell Junction/Halswell/Sparks Road intersection

I have heard many stories from constituents who have experienced near misses at this intersection when using the pedestrian crossing and have heard from many parents who don’t feel safe crossing the road here with their children.

As you will be aware, the intersection has pedestrian crossing signals but does not have turning arrows which means that the safety of pedestrians is reliant on drivers looking out for them before turning. This poses a high risk for pedestrians.

I am mindful that Halswell is a rapidly growing area and this intersection will only continue to get busier over the coming years.

To help make the community’s view clear, I’m bringing Waka Kotahi this petition to improve safety at this intersection when I meet with them next month.
