Ruataniwha Feds refuse to present a balanced view

A bid to sell the Ruataniwha water project to Hawkes Bay farmers has turned in to an incredibly one sided affair, says Labours spokesperson on Water Meka Whaitiri.

“It’s being promoted as ‘Ruataniwha it’s now or never’ and it promises no theory but only examples courtesy of the organisers Federated Farmers and Irrigation New Zealand.

“The problem is that this hard sell ignores any views to the contrary from the community, local  iwi or concerned environmentalists.

“Where is independent scientist Dr Mike Joy? And where is the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment Dr Jan Wright?.

“Farmers and the community can’t make informed decisions when they cannot hear the well-researched arguments from the other side.

“The event next Tuesday may be free for farmers but it will also be free of any views that they do not want to hear. The farmers of the Tukituki catchment, who are being asked to back this hugely expensive white elephant, deserve better .
