"New Plymouth deserves a strong voice in Parliament and a clear plan for our future.
Amanda Clinton-Gohdes is standing for Parliament because she believes New Plymouth deserves an active, visible MP who will fight for the region’s future.
Amanda served two terms on the New Plymouth District Council, where she worked on issues that matter to local people – housing, climate action, strong public services, and building an economy that will support the next generation. With a background in science, law, education and local government, she is known for tackling complex challenges and bringing people together to deliver practical solutions.
Her motivation comes from her own story. Raised by a solo mum, Amanda grew up knowing how important steady work and strong public services are for families trying to get ahead. One of her clearest childhood memories is spending weekends in her mum’s workplace lunchroom with Milo and colouring books while overtime hours helped pay the bills.
Now raising two young boys with her husband in Taranaki, Amanda knows many families are still working hard just to keep up. She wants Taranaki to be a place where people can build good lives – with secure jobs, strong communities, and the services families rely on.
Amanda is committed to being a strong advocate for New Plymouth in Parliament and a visible presence in the community, working every day to ensure the region continues to move forward, creating a strong foundation for future generations.
