Camilla has been a Labour List MP since 2020. Before entering Parliament, Camilla worked as an employment lawyer for over a decade.
During high school, Camilla campaigned for a youth health centre in Wellington, securing funding to establish Evolve, a dedicated youth health service still operating today.
While at Law School, Camilla was elected Co-President of the New Zealand University Students’ Association. In 2004, she led a successful campaign for a fairer student loan scheme, culminating with Labour’s 0% interest student loans election policy.
Throughout her legal career, Camilla was a strong advocate for working people. While in the UK, she was the solicitor on a high-profile case at the Court of Justice of the European Union that addressed holiday pay rates for people across the EU who are paid on commission. In New Zealand, she was a volunteer solicitor at Community Law for many years.
Camilla is a strong advocate for women and the families they support. She has worked extensively on pay equity policy and on legal claims seeking equal pay for work both in NZ and in England and Wales.
In 2024, Camilla had her Member’s Bill, the Employment Relations (Employment Renumeration Disclosure) Amendment Bill drawn from the Members’ Bill Ballot. This is now law and protects employees against disciplinary action if they discuss their pay.
Camilla also worked on the bi-partisan Modern Slavery Bill in her name that is has also become law.
Other Member’s Bills in Camilla’s name that have passed into law include the Crimes (Theft by Employer) Amendment Bill and The Companies (Directors' Duties) Amendment Bill, which states that directors may consider a wide range of factors, when making decisions, other than financial gain.
Camilla is a former Chair of the Governance and Administration Select Committee and Education and Workforce Select Committee. Camilla was both Government and Opposition Junior Whip from 2023 to 2025.
