Dom currently works in the tech sector, leading the delivery of projects and ensuring that businesses and organisations have technology strategies aligned with their goals. Prior to this, he worked in the agritech sector in Lincoln and is passionate about harnessing the power of science and technology to drive innovation, build thriving businesses, and create well‑paid, secure jobs for our communities.

He grew up in Otekaieke in North Otago after his parents migrated to New Zealand in the late 80s. His mother is from Germany and his father from the United States via Poland, which is where the family name Yanzick comes from.

Dom worked in milking sheds and as a farm hand around the Waitaki. It was in these jobs he learnt about the challenges many workers face, especially those from migrant backgrounds. Listening to stories of wage theft and excessive working hours, shaped his belief in the importance of fairness and dignity for all workers.

The rivers and mountains of North Otago were a natural playground that inspired Dom’s passion for the environment and underpins his determination to confront climate change. He is passionate about the outdoors. Whether it’s skiing, hiking, hunting in the backcountry, mountain biking on local trails, or diving on Banks Peninsula, it inspires his commitment to protecting our environment.
