“I believe politics is about people — listening to their stories, understanding their challenges, and working together to build a fairer future. My life has been shaped by opportunity, community, and service, and I am ready to bring those values to Selwyn.
For me, Aotearoa New Zealand represents the power of opportunity, inclusion, and the belief that every person deserves the chance to succeed. For more than two decades, this country has been my home — a place that has given me opportunities to learn, grow, contribute, and build a life grounded in family, community, and service. My journey from a small town in India to becoming an educator, business owner, governance leader, and community advocate has shaped my deep belief that when people are supported, included, and empowered, everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
I am a unionist’s daughter and a union member, raised with the values of fairness, solidarity, collective responsibility, and standing up for others. These values have guided my personal and professional journey and continue to shape how I serve my community. As a Senior Business Management Lecturer at Ara Institute of Canterbury, an elected community board member, and Chair of the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board, I have had the privilege of working alongside people from diverse backgrounds, listening to their experiences, and helping deliver positive outcomes for our communities.
My commitment to service extends beyond education and local governance. I serve as a board member of Christchurch Resettlement Services, trustee of Rose Historic Chapel, and have previously served on the Edgeware Pavilion Pool Board. I am also a Justice of the Peace and an independent marriage and civil union celebrant, supporting individuals and families during important moments in their lives.
I am standing for Selwyn because I believe strong representation starts with listening. Selwyn is a growing and diverse electorate with incredible people, strong communities, and enormous potential. I want to work alongside Selwyn residents to understand their aspirations and address the issues that matter most — making life more affordable, supporting warm and healthy homes, strengthening local jobs and businesses, improving transport and accessibility, and ensuring everyone feels valued, respected, and included.
Politics, to me, is about service. It is about listening with empathy, bringing people together, finding practical solutions, and ensuring every voice is heard. I bring experience, energy, compassion, and a genuine commitment to making a positive difference. I look forward to meeting the people of Selwyn, hearing your stories, understanding your priorities, and working together to build a stronger future for our community.
Together, we can build a Selwyn where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
