Angela Roberts

Candidate for Whanganui

Meet Angela Roberts

"I will fight for a New Zealand where hard work gets you ahead, where we look after each other, and where life is better for all of us.

Before entering Parliament in 2020 as a Labour list MP, I had a career in education as a secondary school teacher. I have since returned to education, working as a teacher and now supporting the development of teachers who are in training and in the classroom.

I've been involved in the union movement for more than 25 years, including serving as the President of the secondary teachers’ union, the PPTA Te Wehengarua. I'm a staunch advocate for public education, women, and social justice.

To remain vital, the Whanganui electorate needs investment in good, well-paid jobs, quality education and healthcare, energy reform, and decent housing. I know the reality of the pressures that are fuelling the cost-of-living hardships our households face. As an economics teacher and unionist, I'm ready to take on the challenge of finding consensus around how we reset the economy to build a sustainable future.

My involvement in politics has always been about fighting for progressive social change for our community. I bring diverse experience and a collective approach to our work to ensure that we can meet the challenges ahead, together.

I have deep ties to the Whanganui electorate. I'm committed to us reaching our potential as a community of design and innovation, a place of sustainable industry, and a place where our young people see a future for themselves.
