Ingrid Leary

Candidate for Taieri

Meet Ingrid Leary

Working tirelessly for Taieri.

Ingrid Leary is a committed advocate for the deep South, focused on delivering practical outcomes for the people of Taieri. As an experienced MP, she works across health, community services, and rural issues to improve everyday life and ensure local voices are heard.

As Labour’s spokesperson for Mental Health and Seniors, Ingrid is a bold champion for fair resourcing and long-term thinking. She is not afraid to push for change where systems are falling short, advocating for investment that makes a real difference. She promotes prevention — supporting people early so challenges are addressed before they escalate, easing pressure on hospitals, crisis services, and families —  while saving public money over time.

She also pushes for mental health services that are properly funded, transparent, and grounded in evidence, with a focus on improving access, particularly in regional communities.

Ingrid is leading work on fairer systems for older New Zealanders, including improving retirement village repayment rules and advancing aged care reform. Her approach prioritises financial security, sustainability, and dignity for seniors.

Known for her credibility, clear communication, and practical mindset, Ingrid takes an evidence-based approach to policy while remaining accessible and responsive to her community.

A key part of her work is strong local advocacy — backing Taieri’s communities, supporting regional services, and ensuring national decisions reflect local realities.

If re-elected in 2026, Ingrid will continue to represent Taieri with integrity, energy, and a focus on delivering results that matter locally.
