National and their mates will freeze the minimum wage for three years, making working New Zealanders pay the price for Christopher Luxon’s coalition deal.

“If you vote for National, you are voting for a Government that will freeze the minimum wage for three years, and take under 20-year-olds backwards,” Labour campaign chair Kieran McAnulty said.

“ACT has made its position crystal clear: freeze the minimum wage and leave some of New Zealand’s lowest-paid workers to fall further behind.

“So a National-led Government with ACT at the table means ACT gets to set the agenda, and working people get the bill.

“Groceries aren’t being frozen. Rents aren’t being frozen. Power bills aren’t being frozen. Petrol isn’t being frozen, everything has gotten more expensive under National.

“Now a National-led coalition will freeze the wages of the people paying those bills and take our young people backwards.

“That is appalling. People who get up every morning and go to work should not be told they have to accept falling living standards while their costs keep rising.

“Labour believes work should pay and working people should be able to get ahead.

“Christopher Luxon has already failed to keep minimum wage in line with inflation, failed to sort out the cost-of-living, and he’s cancelled fair pay and pay equity. He's been happy to take New Zealanders backward - we can’t afford three years of wage freezes,” Kieran McAnulty said
