Release: ACT's answer to failed cuts? Cut even deeper
11 October 2026
ACT's fiscal plan raises serious questions about what further cuts New Zealanders could face under another National-led Government.
“David Seymour has spent three years helping Christopher Luxon cut public services. Now he wants to go even further,” said Labour finance and economy spokesperson Barbara Edmonds.
“ACT is proposing nearly $10 billion in cuts, including scrapping some ministries and reducing funding for foreign aid and environmental programmes.
“He also wants to end annual government KiwiSaver contributions for eligible workers, raise the superannuation age to 67 and cut disability entitlements. New Zealanders deserve to know exactly who will be affected and what support they'll lose.
“National and ACT have already cut thousands of jobs, stripped pay equity claims from low-paid workers and cut funding for school lunches.
“And what have New Zealanders got in return? Unemployment at an 11-year high, businesses closing at record rates, and families struggling to get ahead.
“David Seymour and Winston Peters have spent three years running rings around Christopher Luxon. He caves to their demands, and Kiwis pay the price.
“They’ve found money to give tax breaks for tobacco companies while cutting the services New Zealanders rely on.
“Even ACT managed to release its fiscal plan before National. Tomorrow Christopher Luxon needs to front up and tell New Zealanders which of Seymour’s cuts he’ll roll over for next.
“Labour has a different plan. Today we've set out how we'll bring down the cost of living, with cheaper healthcare, lower power bills, fairer supermarket prices and more affordable transport,” Barbara Edmonds said.
