Release: Calculator exposes the cost of National
15 October 2026
Labour is giving New Zealanders a way to see how much Christopher Luxon has cost them over the last three years, with a new online calculator at cutscostschaos.nz.
“Christopher Luxon promised to fix the cost of living. Three years later, a typical family with two children can be paying around $6,000 more a year,” Labour campaign chair Kieran McAnulty said.
“That's thousands of dollars families could have used for other things, to save for a home, some time away, or a treat for the kids.
“Groceries cost more. Power bills cost more. Petrol costs more. Seeing the doctor costs more. And while families are paying more, National has been cutting the public services they rely on.
“Now Luxon wants another three years of the same.
“Before thinking about giving him another three years, Kiwis deserve to know what the last three have cost them - and another three means more of the same.
“That's why we've launched this calculator. It puts the numbers in front of people so they can see just how much their everyday costs have gone up.
“Kiwis were promised National would fix the cost of living. They were told the economy would get better. Instead, they've been left paying more.
“Labour has a practical plan to get the cost of living under control. We'll cap public transport fares, provide three free GP visits a year, freeze fuel tax and crack down on price gouging.
“Luxon has had three years. He hasn't earned another three. Three more years means more cuts, more costs, and more chaos.
“New Zealand can't afford another three years of National,” Kieran McAnulty said.
