The Government’s own economic update confirms what Kiwis already know: that Christopher Luxon and Nicola Willis are making life harder.
“New Zealanders don’t feel like they can get ahead, and under this Government things are getting worse,” Labour finance and economy spokesperson Barbara Edmonds said.
“Unemployment is forecast to get worse and growth is weaker than expected.
“Christopher Luxon promised to ease the cost of living, but food, electricity, and rates keep climbing. Basics, like bread and milk, are up 53 percent and 16 percent over the last year.
“They promised to grow the economy, but after two years the economy is going backwards and this Government is too out of touch to do anything about it.
“It’s no wonder 200 Kiwis are leaving every day for better opportunities overseas.
“Nicola Willis has made things worse, but now even she is lowering her expectations. She said frontline services wouldn’t be cut, but they have. National has had to borrow even more just to keep the lights on.
“Instead of helping families with the cost of living or creating well-paid jobs, they prioritised tax breaks for property speculators and tobacco companies. That tells you exactly who this Government is working for.
“New Zealanders cannot afford another three years of National. Labour will focus on what matters most to Kiwis: jobs, health, homes, and real action on the cost of living. And unlike National, Labour will keep its promises,” Barbara Edmonds said.
