Release: Luxon ready to roll over
26 October 2026
Christopher Luxon needs to explain where he is going to find the $22 billion in cuts to New Zealand's public services that his coalition partner is proposing.
"With voting underway, Kiwis deserve to know what Christopher Luxon will roll over for," Labour campaign chair Kieran McAnulty said.
"This term we've seen a hiring freeze in our health system, unemployment at a 10 year high, our earthquake monitoring team unable to operate due to a lack of staff, and ACT want to cut $22 billion more from the services Kiwis rely on.
"$22 billion is a huge amount of money. What will they cut? Will it mean ever fewer nurses in our health system? Fewer people working at our borders and protecting our vital industries? Cutting back our emergency management? Less support for schools? No school bus routes? More expensive government fees and charges for services? Longer wait times? Will they cut superannuation?
"Furthermore ACT want to take workers backwards – freezing the minimum wage for three years. If you work for a living or need a hand, a National-ACT government is coming for you.
"New Zealanders shouldn't have to wait until after the election to discover what National will cut.
"Christopher Luxon can't govern without David Seymour. Luxon might have the title but he's let his coalition partners run rings around him this term – he needs to front up and say what’s on the chopping block," Kieran McAnulty said.
