Release: Luxon serves up higher food prices
Life continues to get harder for people under National as the cost of basics like butter, milk, and mince keeps going up.
“Christopher Luxon promised to make the cost of living better, instead he’s making it worse,” Labour finance and economy spokesperson Barbara Edmonds said.
“The price of groceries keeps climbing and families are finding it harder and harder to keep up. The price of butter is up nearly 32 percent. Milk has jumped almost a dollar since December 2023 and mince is now more than $22 a kilo, up $3.40 in just one year. Broccoli is up a staggering 75 percent compared to last year.
“These aren’t just nice-to-haves, they are essentials that people rely on. With the cost of living rising and families paying more at the checkout, National’s failure to act shows how out of touch Christopher Luxon is.
“Last year, a record number of New Zealanders – 73,400 in the last year – packed up and left New Zealand and the rising cost of living is a big reason why. It’s a clear vote of no confidence in Christopher Luxon and his government.
“New Zealand cannot afford another three years of National. Labour will prioritise real action on the cost of living,” Barbara Edmonds said.
