National promised an economic turnaround, but three years later New Zealanders are still struggling with a weaker economy and higher cost of living. 

“New Zealand can’t afford three more years of cuts, chaos and higher costs,” Labour finance and economy spokesperson Barbara Edmonds said. 

“Another term of a National government means higher unemployment, weaker economic growth, and more public services on the chopping block. 

“Kiwis are still none the wiser about what services National plans to cut. Christopher Luxon must come clean on what services he’s going to shut down, where they are and how many jobs will be slashed. 

“National came into Government promising to fix the cost of living. Today, New Zealanders are worse off.  

“Behind these numbers are real people. Someone who has lost their job. A small business owner wondering how much longer they can keep the doors open. A family who can’t afford to pay for their groceries or power bill and wondering what else will have to go. 

“This election the choice is clear: more cuts under National or investment in what matters with Labour. 

“Labour will be fiscally responsible, ambitious for the economy and focused on the future. We will return the books to surplus, bring debt down over time and invest in what matters. 

“Our full fiscal plan will be released shortly, setting out the numbers behind our commitments. 

“We’re backing Kiwi businesses, good jobs and opportunities for New Zealanders. This election, we’re fighting to build an economy where Kiwis can get ahead and build their future here,” Barbara Edmonds said.
