Release: National caught misleading Kiwis
09 September 2026
National has been caught out misleading New Zealanders with its campaign of lies and misinformation.
“From billboards to letterboxes, National is running a campaign of lies because it can’t run on its own record,” Labour campaign chair Kieran McAnulty said.
“National has been panicking for months about its dismal record on the cost of living, and now it’s resorted to misleading Kiwis because it can’t run on its own record.
“Now the Advertising Standards Authority has called them out. That should concern every Kiwi who expects political parties to tell the truth during an election campaign.
“National wants people to believe things about Labour policies that simply aren’t true because it knows the reality of its own record is deeply unpopular.
“After three years of higher costs, squeezed household budgets and public services under pressure, National doesn’t want to talk about what it has actually delivered so it is resorting to fear, misinformation and misleading advertising.
“Kiwis deserve better than this. This election, don’t fall for National’s lies. Look at the facts, look at the record, and ask yourself whether you’re better off than you were three years ago,” Kieran McAnulty said.
