National is refusing to rule out an increase to GST next year, leaving Kiwis in the dark about how much more they could be paying.

“National is refusing to tell Kiwis whether they’re going to put up GST,” Labour campaign chair Kieran McAnulty said. 

“Kiwis will be faced with much higher costs under National - costs on every single thing we buy. That includes the basic necessities - groceries, clothes, kid’s school supplies, nappies, sports equipment, shoes, toiletries, the list goes on.

“This will drive costs up. National stands for more cuts, more pain and higher costs. 

“After giving tax cuts to those at the top, National is leaving the door open to making everyone else pay more.

“New Zealanders are already paying more for the basics. Raising GST would put the price of everyone’s food shop up – paying more for a trolley of food when Kiwis aren’t managing, shows Christopher Luxon really is out of touch.

“National needs to come clean: will GST go up next year, yes or no?

“If Kiwis think prices at the supermarket are too high now, just wait until next year if National gets re-elected. 

"Labour will not raise GST. New Zealand cannot afford another three years of National,” said Kieran McAnulty.
