Release: Report shows National underfunds health – Labour fixes it.
A new report has confirmed what New Zealanders know: National cuts healthcare, Labour restores it.
“This two-decade analysis is clear - National starves the health system and Labour brings it back into line with international standards,” Labour’s health spokesperson Ayesha Verrall said.
“History is repeating itself. Instead of properly funding healthcare, Christopher Luxon is handing out tax cuts to property speculators and tobacco companies.
“The report states the real-world impact of underfunding: staff shortages, fewer hospital beds, and higher GP costs – all of which are getting worse under National.
“Everyone deserves affordable care close to home, without the long waits. But under Christopher Luxon, it’s harder and more expensive to see a doctor or nurse. That means people stay sicker for longer, while hospitals buckle under the pressure.
“The Government should listen to this report. Now is the time to keep building on Labour’s progress – not tear it down.
“Labour will make it cheaper and easier to get care close to home – so you get help when you need it, and hospitals are there when it matters most,” Ayesha Verrall said.
