Release: Show us the cuts, Luxon
05 October 2026
National has spent weeks making up numbers about Labour’s plans, but the real question is: what are they going to cut?
“National has had plenty to say about Labour’s finances, but remarkably little to say about its own,” Labour Campaign Chair Kieran McAnulty said.
“They have spent weeks throwing around absurd claims and made-up numbers, desperately hoping no one notices that they’ve failed to fix the cost of living.
“Labour has shown exactly what our commitments cost, where the money comes from, and how we will get the books back into surplus.
“We have a plan to tackle the cost of living – National doesn’t.
“Every one of Labour’s commitments are costed and funded, meanwhile, National still hasn’t put its full fiscal plan on the table.
“National needs to front up. Which schools, hospitals, roads or public services will National cut to make its promises stack up?
"They still haven't explained how they'll pay for their coalition mates' plan to spend tens of billions on buying back the BNZ, 32 days out from the election. Is it by selling Air New Zealand?
“Nicola Willis hasn’t got a leg to stand on, Labour’s promises are paid for.
“Labour has a credible fiscal plan that gets the books back into surplus while tackling the cost of living and investing in the things New Zealanders actually need.
“National’s desperate attacks come because National can’t campaign on their own record of cuts, chaos and higher prices. New Zealand can’t afford another three years of National.
“New Zealanders are asking a very simple question of National: what of our public services are you cutting?" Kieran McAnulty said.
